This is a 1,500 sf. remodeling job in Encino that included a new sun room, new deck, new kitchen and various upgrades throughout the house.

The existing house had an illegal sunroom added in the 70’s that obstructed the view from the house into the garden.

The new sunroom connects to the house through a set of double hung windows that slide away into a hiding pocket behind a cabinet. All the exterior walls are mostly glass to maximize views and light intake. A 42” wide canopy protects the envelope from direct sun light.

The existing house was built 1947 and the challenge of the project was to integrate the new and the old with contrasting but compatible languages.
